Pulp Scripture Picks Up Two Critics Circle Noms

Pulp Postcard

PianoFight and Original Sin Productions teamed to bring the SF Fringe hit Pulp Scripture to Off-Market, and after reviews in the Chronicle, SF Weekly, and the Bay Times, Pulp was nominated for two 2009 Critics Circle Awards – Best Ensemble (Christy Crowley, Rand Courtney, Charlotte Gulezian, Maya Mahrer and John Mercer) and Best Original Script (William Bivins). Congrats to the Pulpieri for bringing in PianoFight’s first ever Critics Circle nods!

City Solo at Off-Market is a true “Adventure”

OFFMARKETCITYSOLOFRONTAlthough City Solo is not a PianoFight show (Off-Market is presenting this one) we really dig the producers Thao P. Nguyen and Nicole Maxali and the killer performers they line-up each month. Basically, City Solo is a culturally diverse collection of solo artists performing excerpts from their own full-length shows, and by diverse, we really do mean diverse. Last month performers ranged from Jawad Ali talking about his recent trip to Pakistan to help out after a pretty massive earthquake destroyed quite a bit, to comic Mary Van Note who deadpanned the following line every night: “So last night I came so hard I passed out.”

This month features another all new line-up consisting of Lambeth Sterling, David Allan Moss, Zahra Noorbakhsh and Erica Lutz who hit on themes ranging from atheism to dating to clowning to becoming a widow. Oddly enough, a few weeks ago, stand-up legend Dave Chappelle came to Off-Market to check it out (he and Nicole are buddies and Nicole’s opened for him a few times). Here’s how Mr. Chappelle described the show: “City Solo at Off-Market is like an adventure, it’s funny then heartfelt then funny again. I’ve never seen solo shows done like that before.” Crazy right? Dave Chappelle was hanging out in our theater – pic below:
