Aw, Shuck – Oysters, Dinner, & PianoFight at Luka’s with the Deal of the Universe

We here at PianoFight World Headquarters pride ourselves on constant innovation and crackling new ideas (as our recent SF Weekly award for “Best Up-and-Coming Theater Company” will attest). Thus, we were immediately intrigued by the results of our most recent focus group, when our Wharton-MBA staff kept hearing the same comments from group participants. Overall, participants expressed overwhelming concern that in today’s hectic epoch, there just was not enough theater with dinner, or conversely, dinner with theater, or even oysters with theater, or perhaps theaters with oysters playing characters.

With our bivalve interest piqued (though casting calls for oysters to headline a new-age edition of Hedda Gabler were mostly unsuccessful), PianoFight decided to, once again, blast convention, and present a heretofore unseen royal amalgam of theater, food, and mollusks with with a dinner, drink, and theater spectacular at the beloved Luka’s Taproom in Downtown Oakland, tomorrow, Tuesday, May 24, 2011, as the headlining event of PianoFight’s Endless Weekend Tour!* (*Four nights only).

Darrel’s Straight Talk Vloggin Hour: The Rapture

Well everyone, if you hadn’t noticed, The Rapture came and went, and it looks like a whole lot of nothing happened. Is this a sign that no one on Earth is worthy of being saved? Possibly.  But whatever your rationale, it sure did leave a whole lot of true believers disappointed.  And though Family Radio’s Harold Camping was apparently ‘flabbergasted‘, I doubt that anyone was as shocked as PianoFight’s own Darrel Evrett by the uneventfulness of May 21.

Low Shoulders Update: Road Trip, VISALIA

Low Shoulders, the short film PianoFight is executive producing, recently went on a roadtrip to Visalia, CA to shoot on the road. Here’s a post from the Low Shoulders blog. -Evan

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then we shot a few dictionaries worth with our air rifle. In the scene, Billy and Annie take aim at some old photographs.

On the left, here’s the Low Shoulders VISALIA trip road crew victorious at the shooting range on Bureau of Land Management land we visited off highway 5. On the right, practice makes perfect…

On the left, Billy and Annie (played by Austin and Liz). On the right, Elijah. And camera.

SF Weekly Names PianoFight “Best Up-And-Coming Theater Co.”

This just in: PianoFight named Most Self-Congratulatory Theater Company in SF!  We did it!  We win!

Wait, wut? We won Best Theater Company in SF? I KNEW we were awesome. Well, technically we won “Best Up-And-Coming Theater Company” in SF. Shotgun Players won “Best Theater Company.” And SF Playhouse won “Best Experimental Theater Co.” And A.C.T. won the Readers’ Poll for like the 50th year in a row. But the point is, WE DID IT!! WE ALL DID IT!! WE EFFIN WIN BROS!!

First and foremost, congrats to Shotgun, SF Playhouse and ACT – we’re stoked to be in the same sentence. And some even bigger ups to SF Weekly for risking precious column inches on not one, but FOUR theater companies. While most print media is cutting their arts sections in half or entirely, SF Weekly is covering MORE.

So in honor of all this theater-WINNING, we’re throwing a big ass party at the best damn dive bar in city, The Tempest. Party’s at 8:00pm tonight and features music sets from local rockstars LAURA WEINBACH of The Foxtails Brigade, NOAH GRANT of Foolproof Four, an acoustic set from PF favorite MIKEY O’CONNOR and DUNCAN WOLD from El Cerrito (also a PF company member). Cheap booze, good tunes and friendly faces – come by for a beer, some ping pong and and, of course, a shit ton of high-fives.  FOUR MORE YEARS!

DayGlo Apex Predators & the New PianoFight Blog

When an artist creates something and a reader reads it, a frisson of meaning emerges. Some of these meanings are intentional on the part of the artist, and some of them the artist cannot possibly have intended. As readers, symbolism and meaning may seem incredibly obvious and, simultaneously, incredibly improbable because of how specific the meaning is to the experience of the reader, who may live in a very different time and place than the author.

This clip from one of the Land Before Time movies, however, is unambiguously referring to the launching of the new and improved PianoFight blog:
