Signed, Sealed, Delivered – PianoFight inks lease at 144 Taylor

YouTube Preview Image
The ink has dried and it’s now official; PianoFight’s primary pursuit for the past year culminated in the signing of a lease granting San Francisco’s Best Up-and-Coming Theater Company keys to the old Original Joe’s location at 144 Taylor Street.

On Wednesday at 4pm Pacific Time, we gathered with the venerable Duggan family at our attorney’s office downtown and signed and initialed ourselves into a ten-year commitment to establish a landmark entertainment venue in the heart of The City.

Then of course, out came the bubbly to really cement the deal.
Next up, raising money and a coupla hammers so we can make the dream a reality. Thanks to the Duggan Family for being some of the first to believe!

Wear UR Costume to PanderFest

We know what ur thinking. “Salads are delicious.” “I wonder what next week’s WTFriday post will be.”  ”I am SO EFFIN EXCITED that I get to put on my costume for the post-show party I will inevitably attend BEFORE I go see PanderFest!” In the spirit of the upcoming NeverEnding Halloweekend, PanderFest 2011 encourages you to earn a prize by wearing your costume to the show this weekend. Sure, Halloween‘s not til Monday, but if that’s not the perfect excuse to start partying like a sexy zombie maid on Thursday and keep it rocking through the weekend, we don’t know what is. Don’t waste your precious after-show-partying-time ‘getting ready’, Panderfest wants YOU to wear a costume and win a prize worthy of your efforts.

WTFriday – Boo.

A few years back some of the producers of Mission CTRL and Monday Night Foreplays went to a haunted house looking for some thrills of the non-comedic flavor.  We CTRLrs made a gentleman’s bet with the ladies of MNF wagering we’d be far less scared by the house’s spooky inhabitants than they, knowing there’d be photographic proof to verify the winner.  As the photos now begin to surface, I think it’s fair to say we both lost.  Cheers to a committed Halloween!  Can you guess who’s who?

can you point out all the boiz of Mission CTRL?

Zendesk’s History of the TL

With more than a bit of fanfare, tech company Zendesk recently took advantage of the “Twitter Tax Break” and moved its operation into the Central Market / Tenderloin district – they’ve already begun getting their bearings and learning their history. Pretty cool infographic below on the Rise and Fall of the Tenderloin (notable exception is that they fail to mention PianoFight as one of the businesses going into the neighborhood, but hey, nobody’s perfect). Check it out after the jump or at Zengage, the Zendesk Blog.

The Scene Partner – When it Rains it Pours

PianoFighter Nina Harada chronicles her journey of pursuing a career as an actor in Los Angeles. Follow her journey on her blog The Scene Partner.

I mean figuratively of course. I’m in LA. However, even this figurative rain is seasonal. In fact, I think right around this time last year I had a shit ton on my plate just like I do now. Of course for the past three months I’ve been twiddling my thumbs and then, all of a sudden- downpour. I don’t want to complain- this is all good. Very good! No more dry spell. No more doubts. No more thinking, really. There just isn’t the time. Here’s what I have going on:

1. Spoken Word Poetry – opening 10/21

One of my many day jobs is high school theater teacher/director. This is my second year and I couldn’t be more excited about this production, which we’ve been working on since the start of the semester. The students wrote their own pieces for an evening of Spoken Word Poetry. However, instead of performing the pieces in the style of a poetry slam or an open mic type event, they are all staged theatrically, as if each poem is its own one-act. Anyhoo, I’ve been rehearsing with them practically every day and it opens this Friday!

2. Nothing But Besties Short Film – shooting 10/24-10/26

I’ve been in rehearsals every weekend in preparation for filming this comedic short next week, which all stemmed from a little stage play that I got to be a part of. It’s crazy how everything connects and it’s fun to trace the steps back to the beginning. Read more »

PANDERFEST 2011 – EXTREME PROMO!

It was hard to make a promo video to capture everything happening in PanderFest 2011 and while this video isn’t quite as fast-paced or violent as the real thing, it certainly comes close.  See you at Stage Werx 446.
