PianoFight FundFight Night

When PianoFight was established in the summer of 2007, it was with the purpose of producing the two-week run of a play that Rob had written in college. The show was such a success that the theater’s owner offered this young, upstart theater company the unique opportunity to manage Studio250 at Off-Market. Though PianoFight had only recently arrived on the scene, we seized this opportunity. Fresh off an encouraging first production and now equipped with its own stage, PianoFight was perfectly positioned to pursue our goal of producing new work by new artists.
Three years on, PianoFight has premiered over 200 original short and full-length plays, created the largest audience-judged playwriting competition in the country, developed a content-rich website and garnered international critical acclaim. PianoFight’s sustained growth over that same three year period allowed us to expand our production team from two to twenty and take over management of a theater complex in San Francisco in addition to establishing an operation in Los Angeles. The New York Times even called us, “Good for theater.”
This summer we find ourselves uniquely situated to take advantage of a number of growth opportunities and though it was an extremely difficult decision to make, we will be leaving our home at Off-Market as of February 1st, 2011, to build a new space. PianoFight has developed the plans for and intends to build a state-of-the-art, multi-use theater complex in the heart of the historic Uptown Tenderloin District. This facility will encompass 10,000 square feet dedicated to the creation of cutting edge work by new artists. With rehearsal, office and performance space as well as a café/bar, the complex will provide a creative hub for the neighborhood and the wider theater community in a logistically convenient facility.
Our fundraising goal is ambitious and our timeline to raise it is bold. We’re determined to pound the pavement, rally support, and cultivate the investor interest needed to make this project a reality. To that end, it’s our sincerest hope that you will consider attending the kick-off of our fundraising drive with PianoFight’s first-ever best-of show, “PianoFight FundFight Night,” Saturday, September 18th at 7:00pm in the Off-Market Theater. Tickets to the first portion of the evening, the Best-Of Show from 7:00-10:00pm, cost $35 and include admission to the second part of the evening, a rockin’ and sweaty dance party. Or if you just want to swing by at 10:00pm it’s only $10 get down with Das Socken Hopfen.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and we hope to see you on September 18th!
