Orion Al-Shamma-Jones – “Julie” (Round 3)

Orion Al-Shamma-Jones is a game writer at the video game publisher Ndoors Interactive, Inc. In his spare time he writes in a variety of formats, from prose to screenplays and, of course, stage plays.

Tom Baum – “Ashley Saves the World” (Round 3 WINNER, 4)

Cort Brinkerhoff – “Cort’s Play” (Round 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)

Cort was born and raised in Salt Lake City. His play SQUAT was performed aboard the Queen Mary last year. He is an MFA candidate at USC. He likes pie.

Sheldon Bull – “Waiting for Chinese Food” (Round 1)

Sheldon Bull lives in Los Angeles. “Waiting for Chinese Food” is his first ten-minute play. He has written three other plays and is working on a fifth.

Andrew Culver – “Bad Characters” (Round 6)

Andrew Culver is a graduate of the University of Southern California School of Theater and a native of Northern California. He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in English at California State University, Los Angeles. This is his first contribution to PianoFight. He would like to dedicate “Bad Characters” to Huell Howser.

James C. Ferguson – “Jingle Ball Rock” (Round 1 WINNER, 2)

James’ plays have been produced in NYC, N.C., L.A. and MA.  He is also the writer and director of the independent film Happy Holidays, available on Hulu, iTunes and Amazon On Demand.

Don Gordon – “Double Parked” (Round 4)

Don Gordon wrote the off Broadway hit comedy “Panache”. Other plays include “Normal Doesn’t Mean Perfect” – Denver Center Theatre New Plays Festival, “Diversionary Tactics”, “Double Parked” and “Splat”.

Chris Hare – “Scraps” (Round 2, 3, 4)

Chris Hare is an award-winning playwright and published author. Her style could be summed up as comedically dark. She is a member of the Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights.

Robert Hecker – “Lover’s Quarrel” (Round 4, 5, 6)

Robert Hecker was born in Utah but grew up in Long Beach, CA. A WWII veteran, he is a widower with two grown children.
Graduated from the Pasadena Playhouse School of Theater and the Westlake College of Music. Later matriculated at UCLA.

Sara Israel – “Jesse Rode A Bicycle Today” (Round 5)

Sara Israel was cast in the title role of a kindergarten play, The Magic Letter E (cap to cape, fad to fade). She has been engaged by words ever since, especially as a writer and director.

Arthur M. Jolly – “Of Rats and Men” (Round 1)

Arthur M. Jolly, screenwriter (Nicholl Fellow) & playwright. Full lengths currently playing: Past Curfew at Pacific Resident Theatre, A Gulag Mouse in Chicago. Jamie King – “The End of History” (Round 4 WINNER, 5)

Mark Levine – “Opening Line” (Round 6)

Mark has had over 500 productions of his plays all over the world.  Evenings of his work have played in Sao Paolo, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Boston, Indianapolis and elsewhere.

Jason Matthews – “Charade” (Round 1, 2, 3)

Jason Matthews is an accomplished playwright, blogger and triathlete. He is the Writer-in-Residence at the Ruskin Group Theatre in Santa Monica, and currently resides in the luxurious San Fernando Valley.


Sam Miller – “The Dating Consultant”

After years of hard labor, recently Sam started working as a television writers’ assistant, appeared in Vanderbilt University’s alumni magazine and became a produced playwright. Thanks to friends and family.

Tom Misuraca – “Communication” (Round 5, 6)

Tom Misuraca’s plays have been produced at Sacred Fools, StageQ, Theatre Three, Write Act and FirstStage, where he presides as President. His novel,Lifestyles of the Damned, was recently published.

Jan O’Connor – “One Morning” (Round 3)

Jan O’Connor’s plays have been produced in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Her comedy The Girl Who Would Be King opens June 25 at the El Centro Theatre in Hollywood.

Odin Ozdil – “iTard” (Round 4, 5)

Odin Ozdil is a writer and director based in LA. He graduated from Columbia University with an MFA, and has subsequently worked in development and production in cable, theater and on various independent projects.

Robert Potter – “Anton Chekhov’s The Three Minutes” (Round 2 WINNER, 3, 4)

Robert Potter’s screenplay Saratoga was recently given a staged reading by Chicago ScriptWorks. He is currently working on a sequel to Anton Chekhov’s The Three Minutes entitled Neil Simon’s ‘night, Mother.

Felix Racelis – “New Business” (Round 1, 2)

Felix Racelis is an LA-based writer. Twelve of his one-acts have been produced. He’s a member of FirstStage Los Angeles and an MFA graduate of UCLA’s Film & TV Dept.

Lauren Smerkanich – “A Diner” (Round 5 WINNER, 6)

Lauren Smerkanich is a graduate of The Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She has trained with The Atlantic Theater Company’s Acting School for three years in both New York and Los Angeles. She very recently moved to LA and spends most of her time worrying about finding parking.

Douglas Stark – “A Better You” (Round 2)

Douglas Stark has been a writer for such television dramas as “Law & Order” and most recently received a filmmaking grant from DIRECTV. Father of two, husband of one. My take on “A Better You” for the ShortLived 3.0 competition– vote early and often.

Geoff Stevenson – “Double Talk Talk” (Round 6)

Geoff Stevenson is a writer, illustrator, cartoonist, former award-winning advertising copywriter and was a recurring character on a network sitcom. (He got lucky.)

Michael Vukadinovich – “To Love Someone More Than Eggs” (Round 3)

Michael Vukadinovich is a writer living in Los Angeles. His play Trog and Clay (an Imagined History of the Electric Chair) is currently playing at the Powerhouse Theater in Santa Monica.
